SUPERZEICHEN
Bergkamen
2022
Our competition entry combines two themes that are often not thought of together: the need for iconic design to promote the development of a former industrial area, and the increasing scarcity of material stocks.

"Form Follows Availability"
Sustainable planning and construction requires the resource-conserving and energy-optimized use of materials. The current crises have clearly highlighted cost increases and supply bottlenecks. Accordingly, we propose an “urban mining” approach that uses material stocks (façade sheets) obtained from deconstruction. The heterogeneity of such non-ideal material pools serves as an aesthetic foundation.
The presented parquetization (according to Robert Ammann) of the façade is essential for this: the generative algorithm programmed by us calculates the types and sizes of the “tiles” (‘A’, ‘B’; ‘C’), as well as their distribution from a – as yet hypothetical in the competition – material stock. The actual design is based on availability. In this way, different component dimensions are optimized into the façade pattern and material waste is minimized.
