Bridge and Park

Lüdenscheid

2012

Our competition entry for a bridge in the city of Lüdenscheid combines phenomenological effects and infrastructural necessities.

The 'Fly-Over'

Bridge and Park, Lüdenscheid, Structure

A multi-span bridge with multiple connections

The proposed multi-span bridge connects the so-called “Phänomenta”, a science center, with a small square on the other side of a railroad line. To create a direct east-west connection, the bridge also divides into two halves, giving it its characteristic flowing Y-shape. This enables both a short connection to the science center and a direct continuation of an adjacent street which is an important east-west pedestrian link. At its eastern end, the bridge splits again and forms a canopy over the large main staircase.

The structure of the bridge consists of a series of L-shaped steel elements that are lined up along the curved contours of the bridge to form twisted truss girders.
